Eastern baccharis

Eastern baccharis is an evergreen shrub with white flowers and leaves of an irregular, usually rhombic shape with teeth. Due to its tolerance to high salinity and its ability to grow in many different types of nature such as mudflats, salt marshes and coastal dunes, it poses a strong threat to typical coastal habitats. Therefore, since 2016, it is forbidden to use or trade this species in all European member states. Due to the fact that it is easily spread by wind and also forms root sprouts, it can quickly become an impenetrable thicket which is difficult to control.
