Juneberry

The juneberry originally comes from North America. The species is invasive in Western Europe and disturbs the biodiversity in, for example, heath areas, but also in coastal dunes. The shrub blooms from April to May with white racemes. The blue fruits are juicy and ripen in the first half of July, after which they are spread by birds. Since this plant prefers acidic soils, it is most often found in dune scrub and dune woods, where there is a more acidic humus layer.
