Swamp stonecrop

Swamp stonecrop is an invasive aquatic plant originating from Australia and New Zealand that was introduced as a pond plant. It was introduced into the wild by the dumping of garden waste. The plant is found on banks and shallow waters, but it can also grow to a depth of more than 2 metres. Swamp stonecrop can spread vegetatively, even a very small piece of stem can grow into a new plant. The plant has spread very quickly in Flanders and can also be found along the Flemish coast in a few dune slacks. Swamp stonecrop flowers from July to October with small white to light pink flowers. Once the species is established, it is difficult to remove.
