Blue-winged grasshopper
The blue-winged grasshopper is an up to 3 cm long grasshopper, which (as the name suggests) has typical blue hind wings with black cross bands. The blue-winged grasshopper is a true herbivore that feeds on grasses and herbs and is found mainly in dunes, dry heathland and drifting sands. The bright colour of its wings serves to distract its enemies. Actually, this grasshopper cannot really fly, but it can hover several metres by fluttering its wings.
